Gourmet Game Night

When the weather gets frigid, I like to spend my evenings entertaining at home. Bundling up for a night out on the town isn't always ideal. Sometimes it's nice to build a fire, and invite friends over for a low key evening. I'm very competitive by nature so an evening where everyone brings their favorite game felt like a natural fit. My husband has been dying to make pizza at home since he got his Big Green Egg and I thought setting up a gourmet pizza station would add to the fun and keep things from feeling overly formal. I have always read that smell is the strongest trigger of memory and I wanted everyone to remember a great time so I chose to lightly scent my home with candles from the Nest Fragrances Maison de Nest Country Cottage mixed with a few unscented candles for extra drama without additional fragrance. 

 

I placed the Cedar Leaf and Lavender on the Powell table in the casual living area because it smells seasonally appropriate and I knew it wouldn't compete with the delicious aromas from the wood fired pizza. I chose the Ocean Mist and Sea Salt in the guest bath for a fresh scent that paired well with the Nest Bamboo hand soap and lotion.

A drink station was set up when everyone arrived and since we can't resist showing our school pride it was complete with an Arkansas Razorback bottle opener. 

 Pizza making started almost immediately with everyone helping to pick their favorite toppings for different combinations. It was a lot of fun and really tasty! The Greek Pizza was a crowd favorite. 

 

 Christina's Greek Pizza

Toppings:

1 T Minced Fresh Garlic

1/4 C Thin Sliced Purple Onion

1/4 C Sliced Kalamata Olives 

1/2 C Marinated Artichoke Hearts

1/2 C Feta Cheese

1 C Shredded Mozzarella

Base:

1/2 C Olive Oil

1 T Garlic Powder

Crust: 

We made ours fresh using a basic recipe with Italian 00 flour but you can use whatever you like, I think a whole wheat pita would make a great crust!

Directions:

Combine oilve oil and garlic powder and spread evenly over crust reserving the remaining portion for later.

Top with mozzarella and feta then vegetables and fresh garlic. Bake on a hot pizza stone for 5 minutes then brush the crust with remaining olive oil mixture drizzling any extra over the top of the veggies. Bake until cheese is melted and bubbly and crust is golden and crispy.
